The silver jubilee celebrations of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) will conclude with a special event in Hyderabad on June 22, according to the hospital's chairman and actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Addressing a press conference at the hospital on Wednesday, Mr. Balakrishna said the institution, established in 2000, had completed 25 years of service in cancer care. The year-long silver jubilee commemorations would culminate in a programme to be held at a hotel in Hitec City, where several national and State leaders are expected to participate.
Among those expected to attend are Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda, former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel, Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav are also expected to be present.
Mr. Balakrishna said the event would provide an opportunity to reflect on the institution's journey over the last 25 years and outline future plans, including the construction of a new North Block at the Hyderabad campus and the development of a new cancer hospital at Thullur near Amaravati. He noted that the organisation had functioned on a non-profit basis since its inception and would continue to do so.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Balakrishna celebrated his birthday with children undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital. He cut a cake with the children and distributed toys and gifts.
Several donations were presented to the hospital and its ongoing projects on the occasion. A Hyderabad-based donor contributed ₹1 lakh to the institution, while students and management of Triveni and Krishnaveni Schools donated ₹1,01,116 towards the treatment of cancer patients. Another contribution of ₹10 lakh was made for the construction of the upcoming hospital at Thullur.
Thanking donors and well-wishers, Mr. Balakrishna expressed appreciation for the support extended to the institution and acknowledged the birthday greetings he received from across the country.
The programme was attended by Medical Director Dr. T. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, Medical Superintendent Dr. Phani Koteswara Rao, Associate Director (Academics) Dr. Kalpana Raghunadh, along with doctors, nursing personnel and other staff members.
