BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan alleged that the Congress government has mismanaged Telangana's finances, citing the Comptroller and Auditor General's first-quarter report to question the State's revenue and borrowing trends.
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Monday accused the Congress government in Telangana of mismanaging the State's finances, claiming that the latest first-quarter report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealed a widening revenue deficit, rising borrowings and weaker-than-expected revenue collections.
Addressing a press conference, Sravan alleged that the State's budget projections for 2026-27 had not materialised during the April-June quarter. He claimed that while the government had projected an annual revenue surplus of Rs.6,857.76 crore, the CAG report showed a revenue deficit of Rs.12,289.38 crore during the first three months of the financial year.
The BRS leader also alleged that the government had utilised Rs.21,919.23 crore, or 37.5 percent, of its annual net borrowing limit of Rs.58,458.71 crore within the first quarter. He further claimed that the State recorded a primary deficit of Rs.14,141.05 crore, alleging that borrowings were increasing without corresponding capital asset creation.
Citing figures from the CAG report, Sravan alleged that revenue collections had fallen short across several sectors. According to him, total revenue receipts stood at 17 percent of the annual target, while tax revenue reached 21 percent. He also pointed to GST, stamp duty, sales tax, excise revenue, non-tax revenue and Central grants, alleging that collections in each category remained below one-fourth of their respective annual targets.
Sravan further alleged that the slowdown in registration revenue reflected weakness in the real estate sector and claimed there were irregularities in liquor revenue collections. He demanded a high-level inquiry into what he described as the diversion of excise revenue. He also alleged irregularities in sand mining and questioned the State government's ability to secure Central grants.
The BRS leader criticised the Congress government's implementation of welfare schemes, alleging that several election promises and social welfare commitments remained pending. He also claimed that dues under programmes such as fee reimbursement and Aarogyasri had not been cleared.
Demanding greater transparency, Sravan called on the Telangana government to release a White Paper on the State's financial position, including details of borrowings, revenue collections, excise receipts and welfare expenditure. He also urged the government to clarify how it intends to implement its electoral promises.
