Officials estimate possible impact on 8,000 power poles
CM directs efficient water management and reservoir storage
Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday reviewed the preparedness measures to deal with Cyclone Murasu, which is approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast. He held a review with senior officials and district collectors through the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS), focusing on field-level readiness and precautionary measures.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that moderate to heavy rainfall was likely in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, adjoining districts and Rayalaseema. They also indicated the possibility of rainfall in the catchment areas of the Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala projects, which could lead to increased water inflows.
According to officials, inflows ranging from 30 to 50 TMC could be expected. The Chief Minister directed the authorities to plan water management measures in advance and make effective use of the expected inflows.
Recalling the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab, Naidu said several affected areas had returned to normalcy, but the administration must remain prepared to effectively handle the impact of Cyclone Murasu as well.
Officials said the impact of Murasu was expected to be relatively lower compared with Cyclone Arnab. During the previous cyclone, around 31,000 electricity poles had been dispatched to field locations from Srikakulam to Krishna district to support restoration works.
The officials estimated that strong winds associated with Murasu could affect around 8,000 electricity poles across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Naidu said the field-level machinery was prepared to respond to the situation and directed officials to remain alert.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for efficient water management. He instructed officials to ensure that tanks in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Markapuram and other areas were filled through planned water utilisation.
He further directed the authorities to take steps to store water in various reservoirs across the South Coastal and Rayalaseema basins, making effective use of available water resources while addressing the cyclone-related challenges.
