CM Chandrababu Naidu reviews rainfall and cyclone preparedness with AP Collectors, directing them to prevent loss of life and ensure essential services.
Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a teleconference with district Collectors on Wednesday to review the rainfall situation and preparedness measures in various districts affected by the severe cyclonic storm.
During the teleconference, the Chief Minister directed Collectors in rain-affected districts to remain on high alert until the rainfall subsides and take all precautionary measures to prevent loss of life.
Chandrababu Naidu instructed district administrations to continuously assess inflows into reservoirs and rivers and issue timely instructions down to the field level based on the situation.
He said the weather system was expected to cross the coast during the night and rainfall could intensify the following day. He directed Collectors to remain particularly vigilant on September 24 and 25.
The Chief Minister also asked officials to closely monitor inflows into districts and ensure that the entire district administration remained prepared to respond to any emergency.
The Chief Minister directed officials in Srikakulam district to assess the extent of damage to paddy crops following the rainfall.
He asked the district administration to undertake a detailed assessment and determine the extent of crop damage.
Chandrababu Naidu directed the administration in rain-affected districts to declare a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres on the following day as a precautionary measure.
He stressed that essential services should continue without disruption in affected areas.
District administrations were instructed to ensure adequate supplies of drinking water, food and medicines, while also taking steps to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply to people in rain-affected areas.
The Chief Minister said steps had already been taken to bring back fishermen who had ventured into the sea.
He directed officials to continue monitoring the situation and ensure the safety of fishermen and people living in vulnerable coastal areas.
The Chief Minister sought details from Collectors regarding district-wise rainfall, the impact of the weather system and relief and precautionary measures taken by the respective administrations.
Collectors from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, Polavaram and Krishna districts participated in the teleconference.
Disaster management officials briefed the Chief Minister on the movement of the weather system and said it was expected to cross the coast near Polaki at around 1 am.
The Chief Minister directed the district administrations to maintain close monitoring, ensure coordination among departments and remain prepared until the weather system weakens and conditions return to normal.
