Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will undertake a one-day tour of Markapuram district on Saturday to review the progress of the prestigious Veligonda Project and participate in the government's flagship Sanjeevani healthcare initiative in Giddalur constituency.
The Chief Minister will begin his visit by inspecting the Veligonda Project at Ghantavanipalle in Dornala Mandal. He will review the ongoing works, hold a meeting with officials and interact with project beneficiaries.
The Veligonda Project is a key irrigation and drinking water scheme for the districts of Markapuram, Prakasam, Nellore and Kadapa. Upon completion, it is expected to provide irrigation to 4.47 lakh acres and drinking water to 15.25 lakh people across 30 mandals in four districts. The project is also expected to offer a permanent solution to the long-standing fluoride problem in the region.
The project is being implemented in two phases. Stage-I will provide irrigation to 1.19 lakh acres and drinking water to four lakh people, while Stage-II will extend irrigation to 3.28 lakh acres and supply drinking water to 11.25 lakh people.
The government has already spent over Rs.5,000 crore on Stage-I. Tunnel-I excavation, spanning nearly 19 kilometres, along with the exit channel, link channel, feeder canal, Teegaleru canal and Gottipadi Main Canal works, has been completed. Construction of head regulators, tunnel lining, the approach channel and the Eastern Main Canal is in its final phase.
The government has also spent Rs.190 crore towards Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R), with displaced families from 11 villages being rehabilitated.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister will visit the Primary Health Centre at Krishnamsettipalli in Giddalur constituency to participate in the Sanjeevani programme. The initiative is part of the government's vision of building a Healthy Andhra Pradesh through an integrated digital healthcare system.
Sanjeevani is designed as a comprehensive digital health platform connecting Primary Health Centres, Health Sub-Centres, District Hospitals and super-speciality institutions through a unified digital network. The programme aims to create an AI-enabled healthcare system supported by digital health records, ensuring affordable, accessible and timely medical services for citizens.
During the visit, the Chief Minister will interact with Sanjeevani beneficiaries and medical staff before addressing a public meeting later in the afternoon. He will conclude his tour with a review meeting involving TDP leaders and party workers.
