Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the Kadapa Green Steel Plant marks a major milestone in Andhra Pradesh's industrial growth and strengthens the State's leadership in green energy.
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Friday described the commencement of construction works for the Green Steel Plant at Kadapa by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as a major milestone in the State's industrial development.
The Minister said the project is the country's first steel manufacturing facility to be established with a focus on green energy and reflects the State Government's commitment to promoting sustainable industrialisation.
The Green Steel Plant will be developed with an investment of Rs. 2,000 crore and a power capacity of 400 MW. According to the Minister, the project is expected to generate employment and livelihood opportunities for nearly 1,000 people through direct and indirect jobs.
Ravi Kumar said the State Government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to transform Andhra Pradesh into a leading destination for renewable energy and green industries. Referring to the Union Government's target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity, he said Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious goal of developing 160 GW of green energy capacity.
He said the government is encouraging investments across key clean energy sectors, including solar power, wind energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), green hydrogen and Compressed Biogas (CBG). Policy reforms and investor-friendly initiatives are being implemented to accelerate growth in these sectors, he added.
The Minister said Andhra Pradesh is witnessing growing investor confidence under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, with several leading industrial groups coming forward to establish projects in the State.
He said the government's priority is to attract investments that generate large-scale employment opportunities for the youth while ensuring environmentally sustainable industrial growth.
Ravi Kumar added that the Kadapa Green Steel Plant represents a significant step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in green manufacturing, renewable energy and future-ready industrial development.
