APEDA has successfully facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of 5 metric tonnes of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore, marking a major milestone in sustainable horticultural exports and boosting returns for Andhra Pradesh farmers.

New Delhi, June 25: In a significant boost to India's agricultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has successfully facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore.
The landmark consignment, comprising 5 metric tonnes (MT) of Banganapalle mangoes, was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP on June 11 and reached Singapore on June 24. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the ICAR–Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), marking a major step towards promoting cost-effective and sustainable export logistics for India's fresh produce.
The mangoes were sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognised packhouse in Karnataka. The shipment complied with Singapore's stringent phytosanitary and quality standards, ensuring smooth market entry.
According to APEDA, the importer, EC-Links Pte Ltd, reported excellent fruit quality, highlighting the mangoes' sweetness, uniform ripening, longer shelf life and overall freshness. The successful delivery demonstrated the effectiveness of scientific post-harvest management and cold-chain logistics during sea transportation.
The export also delivered substantial economic benefits to growers. While Banganapalle mangoes fetched only ₹25-26 per kilogram in the domestic market, the export consignment realised approximately ₹50 per kilogram, nearly doubling farm-gate prices and improving farmers' incomes.
APEDA said the success of the shipment reinforces the commercial viability of sea freight as an economical, environmentally sustainable and scalable alternative to air transport for fresh fruit exports. It also strengthens India's position as a reliable global supplier of premium horticultural products.
Renowned for its golden-yellow skin, fibreless pulp, rich sweetness and distinctive aroma, Banganapalle mangoes enjoy strong demand in international markets. APEDA expects the successful shipment to encourage more exporters to adopt maritime transport and further expand India's footprint in global agricultural trade.
