Vijayawada: YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy met Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday and submitted a representation seeking a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the DSC-2025 teacher recruitment process.
Jagan also sought an inquiry into the events surrounding the YSRCP protest at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) office in Vijayawada on September 21, alleging excessive use of force and wrongful arrests by the police.
The September 21 protest was organised by the YSRCP to demand an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Mega DSC-2025 sports quota recruitment.
Police had denied permission for the proposed protest, citing prohibitory orders in force in Vijayawada, Vinayaka immersion-related traffic and security arrangements, and law-and-order concerns. The police had warned that action would be taken against those violating the orders.
Despite the restrictions, YSRCP leaders and supporters gathered near the SAAP office. Police erected barricades to prevent the protesters from entering the premises. Reports from The New Indian Express and other media outlets said the situation became tense after protesters attempted to cross the barricades, following which police used a lathi-charge to disperse them and detained several protesters.
The situation also involved a separate group of teachers appointed under the DSC-2025 sports quota, who had reportedly gone to the SAAP office to submit a representation regarding their appointments. Reports said an altercation broke out between the groups, with at least one teacher reportedly sustaining an injury. The teachers rejected allegations concerning the authenticity of their sports credentials.
YSRCP has alleged that people linked to the ruling TDP entered the SAAP premises and attacked its leaders and activists, and has accused the police of using excessive force against its protesters. These are party allegations and have not been established as facts.
The ruling TDP and its leaders have rejected the YSRCP's version of events. They have accused YSRCP workers of creating unrest and alleged that outside elements were brought to the protest. These claims are also contested political allegations.
What is independently reported is that police had denied permission for the protest, barricades were placed at the SAAP office, the situation turned tense, police used force to disperse protesters, and several people were detained. The precise responsibility for the physical altercation between the groups remains disputed.
In his representation to the Governor, Jagan alleged that changes in recruitment policies and other issues had resulted in serious irregularities in DSC-2025.
He sought a CBI investigation into the alleged recruitment irregularities, an inquiry into the police action during the SAAP incident and action against those responsible. He also sought the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh.
The YSRCP has particularly questioned the sports quota recruitment under Mega DSC-2025. According to reports, the recruitment process involved appointments under the sports quota, with allegations being raised over the authenticity of some certificates and the selection of candidates. The government has said the eligibility and authenticity of certificates are being examined individually and that action would be taken if violations are established.
Jagan also attached questions he had previously raised with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to the representation submitted to the Governor.
The Governor's office has yet to publicly establish the allegations made by either side regarding the recruitment process or the SAAP incident. Any criminal or administrative findings would depend on the outcome of the relevant investigations.
