TDP MLA Mamidi Govinda Rao rejected YSRCP allegations over a 2024 road accident, citing the FIR, treatment records and court proceedings and urging the media to verify the facts.
Mangalagiri: TDP MLA Mamidi Govinda Rao on Thursday rejected allegations by YSRCP leaders and sections of the media over a road accident involving his vehicle, saying the December 21, 2024 incident was being deliberately distorted and linked to unrelated political claims nearly 20 months later.
Addressing the media at the TDP Central Office, Govinda Rao said the accident occurred near Korasawada when his driver and others were travelling from Pedda Seedi towards Pathapatnam to distribute wedding invitations for his son.
According to the MLA, another vehicle carrying people returning from Manyam district after attending a funeral allegedly collided with their vehicle around noon. He said his driver immediately called 108, while his staff reached the spot. The injured were shifted to RIMS Hospital, Srikakulam.
Govinda Rao said he personally visited the hospital, met all five injured persons and monitored their treatment. One injured person, Bhogayya, was found to have an existing heart-related condition and a falling pulse. The MLA said he arranged Bhogayya’s transfer to Medicover Hospital for specialised treatment.
Bhogayya received treatment for four days, with expenses running into lakhs of rupees, which Govinda Rao said his family bore. After Bhogayya’s death, he said he promised Rs. 5 lakh in assistance to the family and later transferred Rs. 1.85 lakh through PhonePe to Bhogayya’s son Madhubabu.
He also clarified that his offer of employment meant exploring a suitable position in his hospital, through outsourcing or on contract, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
The MLA contrasted his response with allegations surrounding a separate incident in Palasa involving the son of YSRCP leader Seediri Appalaraju. He alleged that an injured person, Danayya, was left on the roadside after a motorcycle accident and questioned why he was not immediately taken to hospital.
Govinda Rao said the facts of his own case could be verified through the FIR and court proceedings. He said an FIR was registered within three hours of the accident based on a complaint by Madhubabu and named their driver, Rajesh.
Referring to Case No. 68 of 2026, he said the court had dismissed the case and questioned why the issue was still being raised politically.
“I come from an ordinary agricultural labourer family and understand the difficulties of poor families,” he said, adding that he had neither changed the vehicle nor attempted to alter evidence.
Govinda Rao urged the media and public to examine the FIR, treatment records and court judgment before drawing conclusions.
