TDP leader Achanta Sunitha called for a fair investigation into allegations made by former minister Jogi Ramesh's daughter-in-law and questioned the YSRCP's silence on the issue.
Mangalagiri: TDP leader Achanta Sunitha on Monday called for a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations made by the daughter-in-law of former YSRCP minister Jogi Ramesh, describing the accusations as serious and warranting immediate legal scrutiny.
Addressing the media at the TDP Central Office in Mangalagiri, Sunitha referred to the complainant's allegations, which reportedly include dowry harassment, physical and mental abuse, intimidation and religious coercion. She said the claims, if proven, raise serious concerns and should be investigated without political interference.
Sunitha questioned the YSRCP's response to the allegations, alleging that the party had remained silent despite frequently projecting itself as a champion of women's welfare. She also questioned the silence of YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on the issue.
She further alleged that the complaint includes accusations of dowry demands before marriage, continued harassment after marriage, threats to the complainant's life and attempts to force her to abandon her religious beliefs. Sunitha said such allegations, if established, would amount to violations of an individual's rights and personal freedom.
The TDP leader also alleged that efforts were being made to divert public attention from the allegations against Jogi Ramesh and other issues, including the alleged liquor scam during the previous YSRCP government's tenure.
Calling for due process, Sunitha urged the police to investigate every allegation contained in the complaint, ensure a fair probe and take action against those found guilty in accordance with the law. She also sought adequate protection for the complainant and her family during the investigation.
Sunitha said the Telugu Desam Party stands with women seeking justice irrespective of political affiliation and maintained that no individual should be exempt from legal accountability.
There has been no public response from Jogi Ramesh or the YSRCP to the specific allegations and claims made by the TDP in this statement.
