Trump Nobel Peace Prize 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump says he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, while the Norwegian Nobel Committee is set to announce this year’s winner on Friday.

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again said he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, while acknowledging that he is unsure whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee will select him for the 2026 award.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Mr. Trump said the committee’s decision was difficult to predict and suggested that it may be reluctant to honour figures such as him. The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on Friday.
Since returning to the White House for a second term last year, Mr. Trump has repeatedly argued that his involvement in international conflicts makes him a strong candidate for the award.
“It is about that time,” Mr. Trump said, referring to the impending announcement. He also recalled an earlier gesture by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who presented him with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal in January.
Mr. Trump said he deserved the prize for his efforts to intervene in several international conflicts since taking office. Leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have publicly said they nominated him, although such claims cannot be independently verified.
Mr. Trump’s claims have drawn scrutiny as several of the conflicts in which he says he played a diplomatic role remain unsettled. In some cases, fighting has resumed, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The war in Ukraine remains another major challenge for the President. During his campaign, Mr. Trump had pledged to bring the conflict to an end soon after returning to office. However, a lasting settlement between Russia and Ukraine has remained elusive.
Tensions with Iran have also complicated Mr. Trump’s foreign policy record. U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran have contributed to a prolonged regional confrontation, disrupting energy markets and pushing up fuel prices.
Mr. Trump is among the names being discussed ahead of Friday’s announcement, but he faces competition from several other prominent candidates.
Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories are among those being cited as potential recipients.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee is expected to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, ending speculation over this year’s winner.
