TDP leader Varla Ramaiah defended the Mega DSC recruitment, calling Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's allegations baseless. He said the teacher recruitment process was transparent and free from irregularities.
Mangalagiri: TDP Politburo member Varla Ramaiah on Wednesday dismissed YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's allegations of irregularities in the Mega DSC recruitment as politically motivated and without evidence. He asserted that the recruitment of 16,300 teachers was conducted transparently, fulfilling a key election promise of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Addressing a press conference at the TDP Central Office in NTR Bhavan, Ramaiah said the previous YSRCP government had repeatedly promised Mega DSC notifications but failed to recruit teachers during its five-year tenure. In contrast, he said, the present government completed the recruitment process successfully, with selected candidates already serving in schools for nearly a year.
Reacting to Jagan Mohan Reddy's demand for the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh, Ramaiah termed the comparison with the NEET examination controversy "illogical" and maintained that there was no evidence of malpractice in the Mega DSC examination or selection process.
On allegations surrounding sports quota appointments, Ramaiah said the claims were based on misinformation. He noted that senior IAS officers and officials of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh had already clarified that no recruitment rules were violated. He also stated that no applications were received, nor appointments made, under the Bridge game category.
Explaining further, Ramaiah said Bridge is recognised as a sport by the Government of India and has also been acknowledged by the Supreme Court as a game of skill. He added that the sports quota recruitment process involved multiple levels of scrutiny, including district-level screening committees and a State-level committee, ensuring complete transparency.
The TDP leader also pointed out that the YSRCP had filed 241 writ petitions challenging various aspects of the Mega DSC recruitment, all of which were dismissed by the High Court. If the Opposition still had concerns, he said, it should pursue legal remedies instead of making repeated allegations without proof.
Expressing confidence in the recruitment process, Ramaiah said Minister Nara Lokesh had challenged Jagan Mohan Reddy to produce evidence of any wrongdoing and was prepared to answer every allegation with official records and documents.
He alleged that the criticism against Lokesh stemmed from political frustration over the minister's growing popularity rather than genuine concerns about recruitment. He urged the Opposition to acknowledge the transparent manner in which the Mega DSC recruitment was conducted.
Ramaiah also said the government would act based on vigilance reports regarding alleged irregularities in the previous government's "Aadudam Andhra" programme and advised Opposition leaders to wait for the findings.
Concluding his remarks, Ramaiah reiterated that Mega DSC was among the most transparent teacher recruitment exercises undertaken in Andhra Pradesh and challenged the Opposition to present verifiable evidence to support its allegations.
