The Andhra Pradesh Government has relieved suspended IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar on superannuation, while confirming that disciplinary and criminal proceedings against him will continue.

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Government has relieved suspended IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar from service upon attaining the age of superannuation, while making it clear that the disciplinary and criminal proceedings pending against him will continue after his retirement.
According to a Government Order issued on Monday, P.V. Sunil Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer, will stand relieved from service on the afternoon of June 30, 2026. The order states that his retirement is without prejudice to the disciplinary and criminal proceedings already initiated against him.
The government clarified that the pending proceedings will continue in accordance with the provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, and the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
It further stated that the officer's retirement benefits, including pension, will be regulated under Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, along with the instructions issued by the Government of India from time to time.
The order emphasized that retirement does not affect the continuation of disciplinary action initiated before the officer attained the age of superannuation. The government said the proceedings will be carried forward and concluded in accordance with the applicable statutory provisions.
The Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh, has been instructed to take all necessary follow-up action in line with the Government Order and ensure compliance with the prescribed rules governing the case.
The decision formally ends P.V. Sunil Kumar's active service in the Indian Police Service while allowing the pending disciplinary and criminal proceedings to continue independently under the relevant legal framework.
