YSRCP BC Cell Working President Ramesh Goud urged the Andhra Pradesh government to implement Thalliki Vandanam for every eligible student and remove restrictive eligibility conditions.

Tadepalli: YSRCP BC Cell Working President Ramesh Goud on Friday urged the Andhra Pradesh government to implement the Thalliki Vandanam scheme for every eligible student without imposing what he termed arbitrary eligibility conditions.
Addressing the media at the YSRCP Central Office in Tadepalli, Ramesh Goud said no poor student should be forced to discontinue education due to financial hardship. He credited former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy with introducing the Amma Vodi scheme to support the education of children from economically weaker sections and alleged that the present government had weakened the programme by renaming it and limiting its implementation.
Referring to UDISE data, he claimed that Andhra Pradesh has nearly 87 lakh students, while the government has announced implementation of the scheme for only 66 lakh students with an allocation of Rs.10,126 crore. He argued that around Rs.13,112 crore would be required annually to provide Rs.15,000 to every eligible student.
Ramesh Goud further alleged that the government had failed to release nearly Rs.22,000 crore under the scheme over the past three years. He demanded that all pending dues be cleared, restrictive eligibility norms be removed and the scheme be extended to every eligible student without discrimination.
He warned that the YSR Congress Party would continue its agitation until the Thalliki Vandanam scheme is fully implemented and all Super Six promises made by the government are fulfilled. The party, he said, would continue to raise its voice if students were denied benefits they were entitled to receive.
