New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh showcased its growing strength in the textile and apparel sector at Bharat Tex 2026, securing investment commitments worth ₹4,100 crore while promoting the State's handloom heritage, manufacturing capabilities and export potential.
The State's pavilion, organised by the Department of Handlooms & Textiles, was inaugurated by Commissioner G. Rekha Rani, IAS, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Building on its successful participation in the previous two editions, Andhra Pradesh presented an expanded display featuring handloom, textile, apparel and garment products, One District One Product (ODOP) items and GI-tagged products.
The pavilion featured participation from Guntur Textile Park, Tarakeswara Textile Park, Harish Fashions, APCO and Magic Weaves, showcasing the State's diverse textile ecosystem.
During the event, the State signed two key Memorandums of Understanding. The first involves the establishment of a sustainable textile recycling unit in Visakhapatnam with a proposed investment of up to ₹4,000 crore. The second MoU envisages a ₹100 crore garment manufacturing unit, expected to generate around 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) also expressed interest in partnering with the Department to organise export sensitisation and capacity-building workshops for textile MSMEs, aimed at strengthening the State's export ecosystem.
AP Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Pasupuleti Hari Prasad lauded the State's investor-friendly AP Textile Policy 4.0, while Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijayendra Prasad highlighted the global demand for authentic handmade products and advocated the use of Virtual Reality technologies to connect Andhra Pradesh's master weavers with international buyers.
Andhra Pradesh remains one of India's leading textile-producing States, ranking second in silk production, sixth in cotton production and seventh in jute production. The State is home to more than 15,000 textile MSMEs, 140 large textile units, over 35,000 power looms and 3.6 million spindles, while textile exports stand at approximately USD 444 million.
Officials said participation in Bharat Tex 2026 would strengthen Andhra Pradesh's visibility in domestic and global markets while attracting investments, expanding exports and creating new opportunities for the State's textile and handloom sector.
