Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will launch construction of the ₹16,350-crore JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant in Kadapa on July 3, boosting industrial growth and employment.

Kadapa: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the construction of the JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant at Sunnapurallapalli and Peddadanluru villages in YSR Kadapa district on July 3, marking a major milestone in Rayalaseema's industrial development.
The project, to be developed by JSW Andhra Pradesh Steel Limited, will come up over 1,100 acres with a total investment of Rs.16,350 crore. Officials said the integrated steel plant will be implemented in two phases, with Phase I involving an investment of Rs.4,500 crore and Phase II attracting an additional Rs.11,850 crore. Once completed, the plant will have a production capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), with commercial production targeted by March 2028.
According to the government, the project was originally approved in 2019 and foundation ceremonies were held in 2019 and 2023. However, construction did not progress beyond the initial stage during the previous government's tenure.
Following the formation of the present government in 2024, the project was revived through sustained engagement with JSW, resolution of pending issues, timely policy decisions and coordinated efforts across departments, enabling the project to enter the execution phase.
The government has also initiated key infrastructure works to support the project. These include a dedicated water supply system, road connectivity to National Highway-67, and a 12-kilometre railway link connecting the plant to Muddanuru Railway Station under the PM Gati Shakti initiative through RITES.
The integrated steel plant has been designed as a modern Green Steel facility using scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy. The technology is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions while promoting sustainable steel production.
Officials said the project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and encourage the growth of ancillary industries across Rayalaseema. It is also expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh's position as one of India's leading steel-producing states.
The government described the launch of construction as the beginning of a new phase of industrialisation for Rayalaseema, with the project expected to drive investment, manufacturing, employment and long-term economic growth in the region.
