Tadepalli: Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday reiterated the party's support for the proposed "Mavigun" initiative, alleging corruption in the Amaravati capital project and launching a fresh attack on the coalition government over law and order, farmers' issues and governance.
Addressing a press conference at the YSRCP headquarters in Tadepalli, Jagan said the party would continue to stand by its "Mavigun" proposal and make it one of its key campaign issues in the next elections. He alleged that Amaravati was witnessing large-scale corruption and claimed Mavigun offered a better alternative due to its natural advantages and existing infrastructure.
The former Chief Minister also sought the Telugu Desam Party's stand on the Dalit Christian issue. He said the YSRCP had already conveyed its views to the Justice Balakrishnan Commission in support of the issue and recalled that a resolution had earlier been passed in the Assembly. He urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to publicly clarify his party's position.
Coining the slogan "Hey Ram, Save Andhra," Jagan accused the government of misusing the police to target political opponents. Referring to the recent incident near Undavalli, he alleged that YSRCP leaders were attacked while visiting farmers and later booked in criminal cases despite being victims.
He further alleged that people questioning the government were being subjected to false cases and harassment, describing the prevailing situation as "Jungle Raj."
Jagan also criticised the handling of the Sai Krishna custodial death case, alleging attempts to shield senior officials. He questioned the disappearance of CCTV footage and claimed the investigation was being diluted despite details emerging in the remand report.
The YSRCP chief also referred to the death of Dalit youth Kranthi Kumar, alleging that police were weakening the case despite the existence of a video statement. He claimed incidents of police excesses had surfaced from Kurnool, Tenali, Srikakulam and other parts of the state.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Jagan alleged that names of YSRCP supporters were being removed from voter lists and expressed concern over its impact on beneficiaries of welfare schemes.
He further accused the coalition government of neglecting farmers by dismantling systems introduced during the previous YSRCP government, including making Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) ineffective. He alleged delays in crop insurance, lack of input subsidies and declining prices for crops such as tobacco and mangoes.
Jagan also criticised the government's liquor policy and opposed the proposal to establish beach shacks.
The coalition government has not responded to the allegations made by the YSRCP leader. The claims made during the press conference could not be independently verified.
